Directly across the
highway from the entrance to Hearst Castle is
beautiful Wm. R. Hearst State Park. You
can barbecue, picnic, or just wander out on the
pier to watch a beautiful sunset. |
If you take a left as you leave the
park, you'll loop through historic old San
Simeon....passing the old schoolhouse, Post
Office, and several old warehouses that Wm.
Hearst used for storing building materials
destined for the Castle.

| And about 6 miles to the
north, you'll see hundreds of elephant seals!
You can
see them all year long, but the best time of the
year is from January through March when the beach
becomes one gigantic nursery!

After you've been serenaded by a
hundred baby seals you'll have new appreciation
for your own kids!! But seriously, the seals
really are a spectacular sight! Be sure not to
miss them!
Speaking of
sea life...for sport fishing or whale
watching there are several local charter
companies where you can board a boat for a half
or whole day of fishing and seasonally for
watching whales migrating to the warmer waters of
Baja!

you should be able to hook up with rock cod,
bass, snapper, halibut, and even salmon! |
